The Sydney Harbour Bridge opened in 1932 and is another classic Australian icon. Like the Pyramids of Giza or the Eiffel tower, I find it to be so much larger and impressive in person. It is 1149 meters long and until 2012 it was the widest long span bridge in the world at 50m wide. The 4 massive stone pylons on either side are entirely decorative and don’t provide the bridge with any support.
